Kenton County designated the NKY Port as administrator of its $13 million site development fund provided by HB1, the state’s two-year budget legislation passed by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2022. In May 2023, with money from this fund, the NKY Port purchased the former Sims building in Covington for redevelopment into Northern Kentucky’s entrepreneurial hub that will be operated by Blue North. In April 2024, SparkHaus received $6 million in state funding through Kentucky House Bill 1 to support the project’s build out.
