In August 2024, BE NKY Growth Partnership’s executive committee approved the transfer of $62,500 to the Northern Kentucky Port Authority, whose board of directors then allocated the funding to the City of Newport for repairs to the Purple People Bridge.
The bridge, which had been partially closed since May 19, 2024, when a piece of sandstone broke off on the Cincinnati side, reopened prior to Labor Day 2024.
NKY Port Executive Director Christine Russell continues to be involved in the effort to fund needed repairs to the bridge.
